The American Novel: Novel Reflections on The American Dream
PBS, American Masters
Narrated by Patricia Clarkson and as a special presentation of the American Masters series, contemporary scholars and novelists provided perspectives on some of the great American written works of the 20th century. Passages from each book were dramatized through haunting film and still photography, which was inventively animated, effected, and woven together with original interviews and archival footage to form an evocative, intimate tapestry. Works included: Grapes of Wrath, The Great Gatsby, House of Mirth, Seize the Day, Sister Carrie, The Street, Typical American.
